Most twin parents want names that will sound good together. Whether you choose names to honor family members, because they rhyme, or because they don’t — choosing names for twins can be tricky. If you’re like me, you probably checked out (or are in the process of checking out) all sorts of resources before deciding on names for your twins. To make is easy for you, we’ve compiled our own list of techniques: How to choose your twin baby names, gives you all the inside scoop for selecting twin baby names.
Check out our Twins Names page for the most recent year’s popular twin names.
Plus, every year, the US Social Security Administration publishes lists of popular names, and fortunately for us, they also publish a list of most popular twins names. The formatting is not fancy, but hey — I’m a working girl and it’s the quick and dirty version. So, without further ado, here is their list of most popular twin names for 2010.

Our boy’s name has the same first letter as his dad’s name, Our girl’s name has the same first as mine. We also gave them our middle names. Means the intials are the same too.
We thought this was a good way to bond us all without being too “matchy matchy” or rhyming as personally I don’t like that at all! I think twins deals with being called “the twins” enough, they don’t need their names like a little sing song package LOL
My little girl’s name (Savannah) didn’t make the list at all, but our boy’s is (Mason)
Thankfully, my girls’ names didn’t make the list – separate or together. We wanted them to sound good together, but be different enough to give them a sense of individuality. As Sarah said, they’ll have to deal with “the twins” forever, so why make it worse?

Only one of my boys name was on the list. It was on the girl/boy list.
My boys are not on the list
I said to my husband that the first boy will be named after him my husbands name is michael and my first son iss callled mike thhe name of my second boy was difficult for us to find we couldnt agree until we saw the series of roseanne and saw there son deejay we both said that thats the name of the second son so my boys are called mike and deejay
Thankfully my boy/girl names didn’t make the list either; they are Sara and Adam. Alike enough to be good twin names (both four letters with 2 A’s), but without sounding the same or starting with the same first letter etc.
They are common enough to be recognizable and easy to pronounce but without being so common to make these types of lists and have half of their playmates with the same names.
I did consider Ava for awhile, it’s such a beautiful name. But since I knew my boy was going to be Adam I just couldn’t do it to them ~ make them “Adam and Ava”; WAAAAY to close to being Adam and Eve. Boy, talk about pressure. hahahaha
I would have spelled Sara with an ‘h’ if she had been a singleton, but to make it more ‘twin-worthy’ I dropped the ‘h’ so they both had four letter names. Plus I’ve spent my whole life being “Teresa – no ‘h’”, so I figured I would pass it along in the form of “Sara – no ‘h’”. Cruel, I know. =)
Only one of ours made the list and a shortened version of the other did. We made no attempt to match our twins sons names. They are completely individual. Both middle names are those of family members. We wanted names that would age well while providing a shortened nickname while they were young. Benjamin Woodrow and Nathaniel Jacob. They joined sisters Madelynn Kay and Isabella Louise.
Neither of mine made the list. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I wanted to name one Delilah (if ‘it’ was a girl…which I then found out was a ‘them’ lol) after the Plain White T’s song. Then, we had a HUGE deal with my son’s name…I didn’t like any boy names and we couldn’t agree on any. So, we ended up on Leon (my husband like the ‘Leon’ part of Leonardo (the ninja turtles). Their middle names are family names.
Funny thing is, I did NOT want matchy names…and we’ve made them matchy without realizing it Leon and we call our daughter ‘Lilah’ or ‘Liley’ OH WELL
I had identical girls, I wanted to do something that was similar but exactly the same, they are individuals but share something amazing. One made the list but spelled differently. I did Maci and Myah, both with the same first letter in their name both four letters, and their middle names were after me and my husband. So they both have namesakes. I love their names.
My husband wanted to name our boys Easton and Weston. I agreed to Easton but I was totally against the simaliar/rhyming thing so I said no to Weston. So I told him he could have Easton(he shoots Easton arrows) and either we agree or I’d name the other one. We agreed on Kael(the name of an Olypic/College wrestler now a coach) with his middle being Hunter (since his dad bow hunts and the other one is named after the arrow)
Yaaaaaaaay……….lol my B/G Twins name didn’t make the list either there names are Gabriel and Gianna very unique and every one loves there names and so do me and my
I named my B/G twins Dominique(girl) and Dominick. Naming them similar names has caused confusion for the Social Security Admin. As well as Doctor’s offices. I have decided once they begin school I will use one of their middle names, so people won’t be confused, I haven’t decided which. Although their names are similar I’m happy with them, started as a joke I mentioned to their dad and he took it serious so that’s how the twins got their names.
interesting article!!! I am definitely looking forward to
reading more posts.
im absolutly shocked my names made the list. i was extremely unsure of my set Sophia and Mia because they rhyme (that was unintentional, we just love them both)but now i think that this list and the fact that we will call them Sophie & Mia just seals the deal!
